AP European History is an introductory college-level European history course. Students cultivate their understanding of European history through analyzing historical sources and learning to make connections and craft historical arguments as they explore concepts like interaction of Europe and the world; economic and commercial developments; cultural and intellectual developments; states and other institutions of power; social organization and development; national and European identity; and technological and scientific innovation. (from the College Board website.)

Distance Learning Classroom Atmosphere
I expect that we will all show respect for each other and contribute positively to the classroom environment, even if we’re not sitting in the same classroom. In order to do this, here are the governing principles for the class:
1. Be signed on and ready to listen and participate on time. If there is a connectivity problem, contact me immediately through Remind. If you are not signed in, I will have to mark you absent.
2. Keep your microphone off unless you are called on.
3. Don't display anything on-screen that will distract me or your classmates from the lesson. This includes constantly talking to someone off-screen or being on your phone.
4. I strongly encourage you to have your camera on, but it’s not required. If you choose to keep your camera off, please make sure your online avatar is appropriate.
5. Also, if your camera is off, and I call on you to answer a question, you need to answer immediately. (In other words, please don’t switch off your camera and wander away or do something else. Being logged into class is equivalent to sitting in the classroom.)
6. Keep comments school appropriate.
7. Do not talk or interrupt when I or others are speaking. Press the Raise Hand icon if you have a question or would like to answer a question.
8. Do not cheat or plagiarize. It shows a lack of honor and intellect and will result in a zero, and disciplinary action. I uphold all ACHS policies, including the plagiarism policy:
“Adolfo Camarillo High School Academic Integrity and Plagiarism Position Statement
Academic Integrity: The ACHS community values work that reflects actual learning with honest effort, personal accountability, and respect for the work, property, and rights of others. Academic Integrity is not reflected in acts of plagiarism.
Plagiarism Defined: ‘In an instructional setting, plagiarism occurs when a writer deliberately uses someone else’s language, ideas, or other original (not common-knowledge) material without acknowledging its source.’ (Council of Writing Program Administrators, “Defining and Avoiding Plagiarism: The WPA Statement on Best Practices”). “Some [actions] include buying, stealing, or borrowing a paper (including, of course, copying an entire paper or article from the Web); hiring someone to write your paper for you; and copying ... sections of text from a source without quotation marks or proper citation.” (Purdue Owl, Online Writing Lab, “Is it Plagiarism Yet?”)”. ACHS Student Handbook.
Please consult your Student Handbook or the school website for more information about the ACHS plagiarism policy.
Assignments
Obviously, assignments are due on time. If the work is one day late, it drops to half credit. After one day, I will not accept it. All assignments are turned in through Google Classroom.
Make-Up Work
If you have an EXCUSED absence, you will have one week to make up any classwork that you missed. Work will not be accepted after one week. IT IS YOUR RESPONSIBILITY TO ASK ME ABOUT MAKE-UP WORK. I’M NOT RESPONSIBLE FOR REMINDING YOU.
Work missed during an unexcused absence will be a zero.
Looking forward to a great year! Welcome to the class!
