AP Human Geography Chapter Notes Format:

  1. Write Name of the Chapter

  2. Read the INTRODUCTION. (The first page of the chapter, where the Key Issues are located.) Take notes.

  3. Read the SUMMARY sections (at the end of the chapter). Take notes.

  4. Key Terms: write all down, define all the unknown terms, in YOUR OWN WORDS. (What I mean by “unknown” is up to you. If you honestly believe that you understand, and can explain, the correct definition of the word, you do not need to write it down.)

  5. Write several (4-6) QUESTIONS that you have as you read the chapter. Answer your own questions.

  6. Important Figure Notes - Look at all of the FIGURES (charts, maps, graphs.)  Connect ONE to key terms and explain, in your own words, important information represented in the figure. Make sure to cite which figure you are discussing. (Ex. Figure 1-8)

  7. Reread all your notes above and underline important concepts, points, theories, significant information, examples or vocabulary words in your opinion.

  8. Now think about everything you have read. Write down one AH-HA! MOMENT. What is something that really interested you? Surprised you? Confirmed something you already knew? Challenged something you thought to be true? Or maybe just a factoid that you think is cool…
